Between 2008-10, I travelled to Sweden about eight times. From Oland to Skane, to Stockholm to Molle. My first visit, was my first experience of a country that was non British or Latin, and so I was even in confusion over which buildings were old or new. I was blind. But as I continued to visit, I started to relate and prefer the socialist architecture and less cluttered lifestyle. The Swedes sure know how to insulate a building, I can tell you that!
My memories of Sweden feature shop doors that lightly click shut, the tick tick tick of the pedestrian crossings, the countryside that seemed so pure in the south but almost African on Oland, the water in Stockholm, the tram system where a Turkish ticket inspector told us 'the Swedish are very nice......... But a bit naive', the cobbled streets, the cycling using pedal brakes, the pastel walls, the two families that made me so welcome and the suburbs surrounded by forests.
